Bernadette Peters performed with the Nashville Chamber Orchestra tonight at the Schermerhorn Symphony Hall. Words can’t even describe how amazing this show was.
I’m amazed that I didn’t have to fly to New York to see her…or someone of her caliber…in a live stage show. This is one more reason I love Nashville. This city draws such an incredible assortment of entertainment…I’m so blessed to be here.
Every day I can’t help but think about how blessed I am. I’m blessed to live in a city composed of people that share my passion for music. I’m blessed to have amazing friends. I’m blessed to have the most loving parents in the world that always support everything I put my mind to. I’m blessed to have been given so many opportunities in high school and college that exposed me to the arts and gave me real world experience.
There are days when I get down in the dumps and realize I have a ridiculous student loan to pay off. I realize there aren’t enough hours in the day to get everything done that needs to be done. I wish I could have 10 more minutes of sleep. I wish I could always afford that cute dress that fits like a glove.
The list could go on…
But then I realize how many things I’m thankful for…the many ways I’ve been blessed…I can’t even count them all…and everything else seems so miniscule.
Right now I’m thankful for the privilege of attending Bernadette’s performance tonight with one of my best friends. Bernadette’s performance of “Children Will Listen” from Into the Woods brought me to tears. That song is so beautiful…and true…and worth leaving for you here…

Careful the things you say
Children will listen
Careful the things you do
Children will see and learn
Children may not obey, but children will listen
Children will look to you for which way to turn
So learn what to be
Careful before you say “Listen to me”
Children will listen
Careful the wish you make
Wishes are children
Careful the path they take
Wishes come true, not free
Careful the spell you cast
Not just on children
Sometimes the spell may last
Past what you can see
And turn against you
Careful the tale you tell
That is the spell
Children will listen
How can you say to a child who’s in flight
“Don’t slip away and I won’t hold so tight”
What can you say that no matter how slight won’t be misunderstood
What do you leave to your child when you’re dead?
Only whatever you put in it’s head
Things that you’re mother and father had said
Which were left to them too
Careful what you say
Children will listen
Careful you do it too
Children will see
And learn, oh guide them that step away
Children will glisten
Tample with what is true
And children will turn
If just to be free
Careful before you say
“Listen to me”
Children will listen
